Bible Verses 21 June 2016

We know and rely on the love God has for us.
God is love. Whoever lives in love lives in God, and God in them.
There is no fear in love. But perfect love drives out fear…
(1 John 4: 16 & 18a NIV-UK)

Quotation

Prayers for Fathers’ Day and Refugee Week

As we come to God in prayer we think of those who mourn this day because of the actions of violent people.
We pray for our nation in advance of this week’s referendum
But this week is also Refugee Week, and we hold that before God…
Together with Fathers and others known to us who need God’s touch at this time…

Hear us as we pray for all your children who mourn this day… those who mourn the murder of loved ones in Pulse Nightclub last week, and those who try to recover from physical and psychological wounds… We pray for the whole LGBT community there as they come to terms with what has happened and our brothers and sisters in the church as they attempt to reach out in love, particularly our friends in St. Luke’s United Methodist.
We pray for the family and friends of Jo Cox as they come to terms with her murder… and for her constituency and colleagues as they cope with the feelings of shock and fear.
We pray for those who continue to mourn losses in conflicts and acts of terrorism across the world, unmarked by headlines in our media, and for those who mourn the loss of those who have died in other ways… .leaving no less a sense of loss.

We pray for our nation as we prepare to go to the polls in this week’s referendum. In the wake of Jo Cox’s death we pray for a better tone in the political discourse… not just in this but in all areas of contention. I pray that you may give us wisdom as we go to vote… And that you will give wisdom to those who have the responsibility for following through on what we decide. May you assure us of your continued presence and protection whatever may be the outcome… And as we proceed through Refugee Week, and the numbers fleeing conflict and poverty starts to rise again as the summer approaches, we pray for both compassion and wisdom on the part of those who have to make political and practical decisions, not only with regard to the refugees themselves but also the complex causes of the current mass migrations.

And as we bow before you on Father’s Day so we pray for those entrusted with the responsibility of fatherhood… those who struggle to balance the demands of work, marriage, and children… Those who never had a good role model for a father, but are working hard to be one for their own children. We pray for those children who have no good role model as father today and for those children who have been abused by those to whom they were entrusted. We pray for those who seek to be Father figures to children who are not their own, and for those women who have had to be both mother and father to their children. We pray for our fathers, mothers, children… For families of all shapes and sizes. Bless them with your love… your protection.

And we pray for all your children… Those in times of sadness and fear… Those in times of happiness and hope… Wherever they be, whatever they are facing. May they all know your loving arms enfolding them, supporting them, protecting them… Sharing in their joys and wiping away their tears
